Interior Packages

Design guidance for character-driven interiors

Over the past few months, an incredible group of interior designers has generously volunteered their time to help the Foothill Catalog develop five interior design packages, each aligned with an architectural style featured in the Catalog: California Craftsman, Spanish Revival, Mid-Century Modern, Tudor Cottage, and California Ranch.

Each pre-approved plan establishes the home’s floor plan and exterior architecture. The interior, however, is intentionally left open, allowing homeowners to customize finishes, fixtures, and fittings to reflect their own preferences. At the same time, we recognize that starting from a blank slate can feel overwhelming. These interior packages are intended to provide clear, character-driven design guidance that helps each home feel cohesive, thoughtful, and special.

The packages are designed to be flexible. They can serve as a general style reference from which homeowners make their own adjustments, or they can be used as a complete selections package with no changes required. Moving forward, these packages will be shared with homeowners during our consultation process and may be used by build teams to clearly communicate design intent.

California Craftsman

Our California Craftsman interiors express the honest simplicity and material integrity central to the Arts and Crafts movement. Its palette draws from the California landscape; natural warm hues, creamy whites, and earth tones. Woodwork is a defining feature, often in medium to dark stained oak, fir, or similar species, used for baseboards, window and door casings, and built-in cabinetry. The overall effect is warm, grounded, and enduring, interiors feel rooted in nature, thoughtfully crafted, and designed to age beautifully with use.

Spanish Revival

Our Spanish Revival interiors are defined by simple, honest materials punctuated by moments of handmade detail and artistic craft. With a warm and sun-baked palette; terracotta, ochre, creamy whites, and deep blues and yellows create a rich interior. Tile accents are a defining feature and may be hand glazed, painted, or subtly irregular in surface, allowing shifts in color and sheen to liven up otherwise quiet spaces. Metal fixtures in aged bronze or warm dark finishes pair well with the tile to contrast against the creamy white walls. The overall feeling is composed and tactile, with materials selected to feel substantial, forgiving, and capable of aging gracefully.

California Ranch

Our California Ranch interiors provide a warm, relaxed interpretation of the classic postwar California Ranch home common throughout Altadena and the surrounding foothill neighborhoods. Interior finishes reinforce a horizontal and understated architecture through flat surfaces and clean lines. Exposed warm metal hardware in brass, brushed gold, and chrome, Decorative elements are minimal and integrated. Walls are finished in soft, warm neutrals that create continuity from room to room and reflect natural light. The overall effect is grounded and welcoming, with materials selected for resilience, comfort, and the ability to age naturally.

Mid-Century Modern

Our Mid-Century Modern interiors are defined by clarity of form, openness, and a strong connection to light and landscape. Accent colors are slightly bolder and stronger; including, ochre, olive, teal, rust, or deep blue, and are used to create moments of personality within an otherwise neutral interior. Walls painted in warm whites are used to reflect daylight and maintain visual continuity throughout open plan spaces. Profiles remain streamlined and geometric, allowing material and proportion to take precedence over ornament. The overall effect is bright, structured, and expressive, with materials chosen to highlight geometry and celebrate light.

Tudor Cottage

Our Tudor Cottage interiors are a contemporary interpretation of traditional English cottage architecture that balances the cozy feeling of a true Cottage with a lighter palette of a Tudor. These interiors introduce cozy grey on trim, cooler accents, cleaner lines, and a more open spatial character. Paint colors are warm and soft, allowing interiors to feel bright and expansive. Metal fixtures in brushed, satin, or aged brass provide subtle contrast. Wood finishes may range from medium natural tones to deeper stains, used selectively in flooring, cabinetry, or accent millwork. The overall effect is quaint yet airy, rooted in tradition but edited for clarity, livability, and long-term durability.
