Journal Entry #11: Rebuild Consultations, Team Building, & our 501(c)(3) Status
Rebuild Consultations with The Foothill Catalog
Over the past couple weeks, we officially began our first homeowner consultations for those considering a Foothill Catalog plan. Consultations are the first step in working with us one-on-one: reviewing your specific lot and site conditions, exploring which plan best fits your needs, and discussing your budget, timeline, and next steps.
We’ve been inspired by each homeowner meeting so far and hearing what makes each home special - the roses that survived, the porch mountain views, and all of those stories that guide the rebuild.
If you are interested in moving forward with a specific plan, or deciding between plans, please begin by filling out our Rebuild Questionnaire. Once your responses are processed, our team will follow up with a link via email to schedule your consultation.
Altadena Revealed: Reflections of People & Place
Thank you to everyone who came out to Altadena Revealed #05 with Tim Gregory last Friday. We’ll be sharing the Youtube link soon for anyone who would like to view the lecture online. The next Altadena Revealed is scheduled for Thursday, September 25th and will be an extra special event.
The Owen Brown Gravesite Committee will host the first Altadena screening of Owen Brown’s Body on 9/25 at 7 pm at the Altadena Main Library, introduced by filmmaker Pablo Miralles. Pablo’s film extends the long history of Altadena contrarians in its telling of Owen Brown. He, his father John Brown, and other family members were among the most famous abolitionist/activists of the 19th Century. After the 20 minute film, Pablo and executive producer Michele Zack will field questions both about Brown Family history, and long-running community efforts to preserve the gravesite in Altadena’s foothills. More details and registration coming soon!
Team Building - Dragon Boat!
Last weekend the FC team met down at Mother’s Beach to participate in a team building activity - Dragon Boating! Our Director of Operations, Crystal (a seasoned paddler of “100 years” by her count), generously organized a morning on the water for everyone.
Beyond the fun of learning a new sport, it was a lesson in teamwork: paddling efficiently rather than forcefully, staying in rhythm with each other, and recognizing the importance of every role and person on the boat.
Much like our daily work as a small but dynamic team managing many different moving parts, our success depends on moving in sync toward a common goal - making that boat glide faster.
We ended our morning at the beach with a small celebration because The Foothill Catalog Foundation has officially received it’s 501(c)(3) status! Yes -- good news from the IRS.
We are so proud of everyone on the team and everything that they’ve given to get TFCF to this major milestone. As we begin walking alongside homeowners in their rebuild journeys through consultations and beyond, we look forward to continuing to grow together on the path ahead.
Until Next Time,
The Foothill Catalog
