Journal Entry #5 - TFCF’s Concept Design Showcase, Partnerships & Updates
Upcoming Events
We are excited to host our first Concept Design Showcase and Meet + Greet this upcoming Sunday, May 4th. Please join us between 1-4pm at the Sierra Madre Women’s Club to view some initial concept designs, learn more about our process, and meet the designers + TFCF team. We will have light refreshments to enjoy and also a craft area for children. This will be an open house format so no registration is required - please stop by when you can! We’re excited to meet many of you in person soon.
If you are an architect/designer and would like to learn more about getting involved in our design process, it’s not too late! Please reach out to us at info@foothillcatalog.org and our team will follow up with more information.
We have a few other informational events planned this week as well.
Wednesday, April 30th 6PM - Beautiful Altadena Talks (Information + Q&A) - Virtual Event, RVSP here
Saturday, May 3rd 10am-12pm - LA County x TFCF Webinar on Preapproval Process - Virtual Event, RVSP here
The webinar with LA County will be an official announcement and launch of the preapproval permitting process. This is a new way to permit that has not previously existed for single family residences. Meaning, this is a big deal!
It’s important to note that this new permitting process is not exclusive to The Foothill Catalog. Any architect or designer can utilize this method to create plans preapproved by LA County, to hopefully provide more options to help wildfire survivors rebuild and remain in their community.
News
Habitat for Humanity Partnership
In partnership with San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity, TFCF is in the process of developing three Catalog home designs based around one efficient floor plan, that can be built by SGV Habitat. Each home features 3 beds, 2 baths and ranges from 1160 to 1190 square feet, with an option for a detached garage. While sharing the same floor plan, the character of each home differs, reflecting the variety in architectural identity and regional specificity of the foothill locale.
The First Preapproval
It’s important to note that while these designs were developed with SGV Habitat, they will not be exclusive to Habitat builds. As of 4/25/25, our first construction set for “The Lewis” has been submitted to LA County for pre-approval. Once approved, it will become the first of the Catalog homes ready for site verification and construction.

Website Updates
We’ve been working hard over the past several weeks to not only develop the Catalog’s framework and its initial designs, but also refine this new process and project delivery method. Please visit our website page below for more information on our timeline, projected costs, and steps homeowners can take now, regardless of what rebuild method you choose.
We will also be sending out regular newsletter updates to our homeowners. If you are an affected homeowner and would like to receive these updates, please contact us to get added to the newsletter list.
We hope to see many of you over the next week at various events, and especially in person on May 4th! In the meantime, don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or comments.
Until Next Time,
